Both vans share the same core comforts – heating, solar/off-grid capacity, onboard Wi-Fi, and a full camping kitchen – with Glen Roamer better suited to couples or smaller groups wanting a double hob and reclining bed, and Ben Roamer offering an extra seat and diesel heating for families or longer off-grid stretches.
Optional extras available on either van: premium bedding pack, portable camping toilet, paddleboards, wetsuits, fire pits – add any of these any time before your collection date.

How Campervan Hire Works
- Choose your dates – no minimum hire in mid or off-peak season; a 2-night minimum applies in peak season.
- Pick your van – Glen Roamer or Ben Roamer.
- Book and pay your deposit – secure your dates online in a few minutes.
- Collect and go – collection from 2pm, with everything explained on handover before you hit the road.
Pickup, Drop-off & Airport Transfers
Collection and return is from our base in the Ochil Foothills. Standard collection is from 2pm, with return by 11am. Early pick-up or late return can be arranged on request, subject to availability and an additional fee.
Flying in? We offer airport transfers from Edinburgh or Glasgow for £80 (subject to flight times) – and if you’re hiring for 7 nights or more, transfers are free.
If you’re leaving your own car with us during your hire, free parking is available at our base for the duration of your trip (left at owner’s risk).
Exploring the Scottish Highlands & Islands by Campervan
This is where a Highland Roamers van really comes into its own. The Highlands are full of roads that reward slow travel and spontaneous stops – the kind of trip a fixed itinerary just can’t match.
The North Coast 500 – Scotland’s answer to Route 66, looping 516 miles around the northern coastline through some of the most dramatic scenery in the country. A VW campervan is the ideal size for its narrow, winding stretches.
The Isle of Skye – jagged peaks, the Fairy Pools, and the Old Man of Storr, all reachable by road bridge and easily explored at your own pace.
Glencoe and the Cairngorms – glacier-carved valleys, hillwalking, and two national parks’ worth of wildlife and scenery, all within easy reach of a Highlands-based campervan trip.

Drivers & Insurance
To hire a Highland Roamers campervan, you’ll need to be aged 21–79 and hold a full UK, EU, Australian, or New Zealand licence held for at least 2 years. If you have minor points or convictions, get in touch before booking and we’ll confirm whether we can accommodate you.
Every hire includes fully comprehensive insurance, plus annual EU cover – so you’re free to take the van across to Europe if your Highlands trip turns into something bigger. The standard insurance excess is £750, and a £750 security deposit is held on your card at collection, released once the van is checked back in with no damage reported. Note that insurance covers the vehicle, not your personal belongings – we’d recommend separate travel insurance for anything valuable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer motorhomes or RVs, or just campervans?
We hire VW campervans exclusively – we don’t offer motorhomes or larger RVs. Campervans are easier to drive and park, more fuel-efficient, and much better suited to the narrow roads, tight villages, and ferry crossings you’ll encounter across the Scottish Highlands. If you’re booking a ferry as part of your trip, select the car/van/campervan option rather than motorhome, which usually falls under a larger, costlier category.
Where can I collect the campervan?
Collection is from our base in the Ochil Foothills, with free parking available if you’re leaving your own car for the duration of your hire.
Do you offer airport pick-up and drop-off?
Yes – airport transfers from Edinburgh or Glasgow are available for £80 (subject to flight times), and free for hires of 7 nights or more.
What is your standard collection and return time?
Collection is from 2pm and return is by 11am. Early pick-up or late return can be arranged on request, subject to availability and an additional fee.

There’s no fixed toilet, but a portable camping toilet is available as an optional extra. Showers aren’t included, but most campsites provide these facilities.
Do you provide bedding?
Premium bedding packs are available as an optional extra at booking.
Do your vans have Wi-Fi?
Yes, though coverage can be limited in the more rural parts of the Highlands — a good excuse for a digital detox along the way.
Do you allow pets?
Yes – well-behaved dogs are welcome for an additional fee.
Is there a mileage limit?
Yes – mileage is limited to 150 miles per day. We’d encourage you to take your time, stop often, and soak in the sights rather than clock up miles.
Can we take the campervan outside the UK?
Yes – annual EU cover is included in your insurance.
What happens if I break down?
All hires include 24/7 roadside assistance, so you’ll be supported quickly wherever you are.
What is your minimum hire period?
There’s no minimum hire in mid or off-peak season. A 2-night minimum applies in peak season.
What is your cancellation policy?
Free cancellation is available up to 30 days before your hire. Cancellations within 30 days are subject to charges.
Do you offer discounts?
We’re part of the Camping & Caravan Club discount scheme, giving you 10% off at member sites. We also run seasonal promotions from time to time – keep an eye on our website and social channels.
