Our Dog Friendly Campervan

If you’re travelling with a dog, you need to choose the dedicated pet-friendly campervan when making your booking.

Pets are not permitted in Highland Roamers’ other vehicles. The pet-friendly campervan must therefore be booked in advance and agreed with Highland Roamers before your booking is confirmed.

The dedicated vehicle provides a practical way to combine transport, sleeping and your Scottish adventure in one campervan.

Whether you’re planning a short break or a longer road trip, having your dog with you means you can enjoy Scotland together rather than arranging separate pet care while you’re away.

How Many Dogs Can I Bring?

Highland Roamers allows:

  • One medium-sized dog, or
  • Up to two small dogs

This limit applies specifically to the dedicated pet-friendly campervan.

Your dog or dogs must be agreed with Highland Roamers before booking. If you’re unsure whether your dog falls within the permitted size category, contact us before making your reservation.

£50 Cleaning Charge for Dog-Friendly Hire

An additional £50 cleaning charge applies to any hire of the dedicated pet-friendly campervan.

This charge helps cover the additional cleaning required following a booking with pets.

The cleaning charge is separate from the standard cost of your campervan hire and should be considered when planning your trip.

What Happens If a Dog Is Taken Into Another Campervan?

Pets are not permitted in any Highland Roamers vehicle other than the dedicated pet-friendly campervan.

This means you should not bring a dog into another vehicle, even temporarily.

Any breach of the pet policy will result in a £100 charge deducted from the security deposit.

If you’re travelling with a dog, make sure you select and agree the pet-friendly campervan before your booking.

Explore Scotland With Your Dog

One of the benefits of travelling by campervan is being able to explore different parts of Scotland during one trip.

Depending on your itinerary, you could explore:

Loch Lomond & The Trossachs

Close to Highland Roamers’ base, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs are ideal for a Scottish break combining lochs, woodland, hills and outdoor activities.

The Scottish Highlands

Head north for mountain scenery, glens, lochs and scenic roads. The Highlands provide plenty of opportunities to spend time outdoors with your dog while following local access rules.

Glencoe & Fort William

Glencoe is known for its dramatic mountain scenery and is a popular stop on Scottish road trips. Continue towards Fort William for further Highland scenery and outdoor opportunities.

Cairngorms

The Cairngorms offer mountains, forests and wide-open landscapes. If you’re planning walks with your dog, check local access guidance and any seasonal restrictions before setting out.

Isle of Skye

For a longer adventure, you can include the Isle of Skye in your itinerary. Its dramatic coastline and Highland landscapes make it a memorable destination for a Scottish campervan trip.

North Coast 500

Planning the NC500 with your dog? A campervan gives you flexibility to build your itinerary around the places you want to visit.

For more information about hiring a campervan for the route, see our NC500 campervan hire page.

Planning a Campervan Holiday With Your Dog

Travelling with a dog requires a little more planning than a standard campervan trip.

Before you travel, consider:

Plan Dog-Friendly Stops

Check that the places you plan to visit allow dogs and look for suitable walking areas along your route.

Check Accommodation and Overnight Rules

If you’re staying at campsites or other overnight locations, check their pet policies before travelling.

Follow Local Access Rules

Scotland has extensive outdoor access rights, but these come with responsibilities. Keep your dog under control and follow any local restrictions, seasonal guidance and signs.

Pack Your Dog’s Essentials

Bring the food, water, bedding, lead, waste bags, towel and any other equipment your dog normally needs.

Plan Breaks During Longer Drives

Regular stops can make longer journeys more comfortable for both you and your dog.
